Skin and other nail conditions

Athlete’s Foot

Tinea Pedis, is a skin fungal infection. It can lead to intense itching, cracked, blistered or peeling areas of skin, redness and scaling. It can occur on moist, waterlogged skin usually between the fourth and fifth toes initially, or on dry, flaky skin around the heels or elsewhere on the foot.

When to make an appointment

You may be able to treat Athlete’s foot on your own, but a podiatrist may help you pinpoint the best treatment for your particular type of Athlete’s foot, as your treatment is dependent upon the area infected.

Fungal Nails

Fungal nails may occur subsequent to damaged nails or subsequent to longstanding untreated Athletes foot. The nails can become crumbly, soft discouloured and partially or totally affect the nail plate. A fungal infection does not normally infect healthy nails. Fungal infection of the toenail does not usually cause pain like a bacterial infection does.

When to make an appointment

If you have concerns that your nail may have a fungal infection
If you are worried about the appearance of your nails
If the infection is not responding to treatment
